post op period

I just assumed that a lot of the surgeries I bill carry a global po period of 90 days. Boy was I wrong. After reviewing some of the procedure codes in the CPT® book, I see several procedures do not carry any global days. Do other offices bill for an "office visit" eventhought it should be considered a post op visit? Please help.

Postop billing

Ultimately it is always up to the physician if he wants to bill for his time. If a patient is being seen out of the postop period and the visit is medically necessary then nothing says you cannot bill for your time. We usually bill for visits out of the postop period even when it is related. Nowadays we can't afford to give away any time.

post op

CPT® codes will have 0,10,or 90 day globals.....with a CPT® with a 0 global it is ok to bill a visit after....with a CPT® of 10 or 90 days it would be included unless it is "unrelated"....those can be billed with a modifier 24....I have a doc that offers a f/u to all his patients at no cost that have had a 0 CPT® procedure as a courtesy.
