Observation 2009 and 2010
Does anyone know what code was used back in 2009 and 2010 for observation longer than 48 hours? I know it changed in 2011, but I need to know what was used before.

For physician billing it was an established patient visit 99212-99215. The discharge day was 99217 (same physician that admitted to OBS).

But, 99212-99215 are office visits, aren't they? This is for observation in a hospital setting.

Yes, Observation is an out-patient status,. There were no codes for subsequent days in obs, use outpatient visit codes.

Never mind. I see. I just use a 22 place of service. Thanks so much for your help.
