CPT code for Interosseous Bioplasty
What CPT code would you use for this procedure? Sounds like the ortho doc is taking stem cells out and injecting into a bone when the patient has a stress fracture. He usually does this when performing other arthroscopic procedures. I don't like 0232T, but I am not sure an unlisted code is correct either. Any advise? TIA

Review the surgery section for Bone Marrow or Stem Cell Services/Procedures38205-38232.
For bone marrow harvesting for autologous transplant consider 28232. Use 38230 when bone marrow is harvested from a donor (allogeneic). Use 38232 when bone marrow is harvested from the patient (autologous).
According to AMA guidelines, it is not appropriate to report 38220-38230 for bone marrow aspiration when doing a platelet-rich stem cell injection. For proper coding of bone marrow aspiration for platelet-rich stem cell injection, report 0232T.
Therefore, use 0232T if the only service is Platelet Rich Plasma, if applicable, bill for Platelet-rich plasma, each unit using P9020,
