Drug Wastage

I'm in a clinic setting with an infusion suite. An IV drug was mixed incorrectly and cannot be infused. Can a commercial payer be billed? I have looked on BCBSTX and Aetna and cannot find any reference to this. Is this considered the 'cost of doing business', or will some payers consider covering this drug?
(They have contacted the manufacturer for assistance, but since it was a generic, they were not willing to replace the drug.)

No, no billing. The insurer is not responsible for an error.

This is part of your overhead. Be glad the mistake was caught before the drug was infused or the cost may have been much higher. I surmise the cost of the drug is not trivial, so this may be a reason to look at the procedures and protocols for mixing drugs.
