How to code a laceration of the right finger, the Ecode says it is unaccetable for a principle diagnosi

You have to code the open wound of the finger first. The e code states how it happened

Use 883.0 as primary and if you know the external cause for the laceration then code the Ecode as secondary

True. Your e codes are informational only and are always coded last. When you look up laceration ICD-9 redirects you to also see wound, open by site. Your primary dx will be directed by how the note is worded. You will report either 883.0 (without complication), 883.1 (complicated) or 883.2 (with tendon involvement)
