hysteroscopy/d&c

Our physician attempted to do a hysteroscopy/d&c 58558-unable to complete because of cervical stenosis-did get an endometrial sampling-would we code 58558 with a 52 modifier or just code the d&c - we have opposing views on this at our facility - would love any feedback!

Why use a 52 modifier

According to cpt code 58558 it says hysterscopy, surgical; with sampling of endometrium and/or polypectomy, with or without d&c. So if your doctor was able to get the sampling it is not required to do the d&c. I would just charge the 58558.
