re: an elderl
If an elderly patient has a pathalogical fracture, you would code the pathological fracture code as well as the diagnosis for whatever disease process that caused the fracture. For example: If a patient suffered a pathological vertebral compression fracture due to senile osteoporosis, you would code 733.13 (pathologic fx of vertebrae) and 733.01 (senile osteoporosis). You would not necessarily need an E code unless there were other factors involved.
