coding 11440

I submitted to aarp a claim for 11440 and it came back saying it needs to be unbundled. Dr. removed two leisons in same area, both less than 0.5cm. I submitted code only once with 2 units. Do I need to submit separately on the claim, for each one or do I use modifier 59 or 51. I am new at this.

Per your cpt book in the heading of excision-benign lesions, it says to report seperately each benign lesions excised. You should file each lesion seperately not using the code once with two units and you do not need a modifier.

I think you'll need the 59 modifier to keep the code from being denied as a duplicate.
