Check out the National Alliance of Medical Auditing Specialists. I believe it's a 2-day course with testing on the 2nd day. The program is approved for 12 CEU's thru the AAPC.

I would look at the AAPC website, and DecisionHealth's website. Barb Pierce still does auditing education for them, and I think is doing it in Vegas in January. www.partbnews.com and look for conferences. She's the best!

What is a coding auditor

[Hello- what is a coding auditor?]

A coding auditor is someone who reviews claims for proper coding guidelines. This person is required to understand regulations for the type of insurance they are working with as well as guidelines for CPT codes. Often this is done by use of an electronic system that flags the claims as a possible coding error, then the coding auditor reviews the claim along with extensive research in the patient history to see if the edit applies. They are the person that makes the decision to allow or deny certain charges based on this information.

Coding Auditor

I have been working as a coding auditor for Molina Healthcare. I would suggest that you contact any local insurance companies in your area, (or an area you would like to be in). They will often have their own requirements, mostly pertaining to experiance. I was required to have 1 year of claims experiance, but some companies will need you to be CPT Certified as well. Good luck, it's a lot of fun. Let me know if you come accross anything at home- I WOULD BE INTERESTED in an at home position... part time. :)
