On Call Charges

Is there a code a physician can use when they are on call for a nursing facility. They get calls at all hours and sometimes are on the phone for 15-30 minutes with the nursing staff. I have searched and can not find anything specific to this situation.

There is no CPT code for discussing the care of a patient with the nursing staff over the phone. Medicare considers pre and post work as part of the E/M or other service performed, and has built the time and work of that into the RVUs for the codes.

Also be aware that most insurance companies will not reimburse for charges where the provider is not face to face with the patient.
