The CPT code for the test most commonly known as a "Barium Swallow Test" is 74220 - Radiologic Exam; Esophogus. The diagnosis code is whatever the findings indicate, or whatever the reason for the test is (symptom, disease, condition, etc) The "chalky drink" is barium sulfate, which is the contrast material used for the test. It is also used for other GI radiology tests such as "upper GI", barium enema, etc.
