er vs outpatient

when billing observation charges do i bill outpatient or emergency room? the hospital just indicates observation please help

If you are using OBS CPT® codes, use outpatient POS.

If you read the guidelines, observation can occur anywhere in the facility.
You are coding for the service, not the location.
If you're providing observation services use observation codes.
Documentation is very important, no documentation by the provider in the chart, it does not become a billable observation service.
