repeat pap smear

Pt had a pap smear done in Dec 2014. Result came back & its inadequate cervical cytology sample. So, doc repeat the pap in Jan. 2015. I can't bill the gyne exam bcoz its not a routine. Can I bill Q0091 with 795.08 (inadequate cervical cytology sample) or can we bill E/M code? I need help. thanks!

QOO91 can only be used if your billling Medicare and it can only be used every two years accompanyed with the G0101. So if the patient is coming back for a repeat pap and they have MCR you should bill it as a 99212 with the DX(795.xx) code needed to state why the pap is being repeated. We use the specimen 99000 handling/specimen code which MCR does not usually pay, we use it to show that the pap was done for the patients records tho.
