Interpreter in the ER
Hello,
I have been asked by our ER providers if the use of an interpreter is a data point for"obtain history from someone other than the patient" for the E&M visit..
While I do feel that the use of an interpreter can add to the complexity of the visit, I feel like the history is still form the patient and am inclined to say no.
Has anyone else worked through this issue?
Thank You,
Louise
re: Interpreter in the ER
I think CMS has the opinion that this it would be discriminatory to consider this added complexity, based on the Americans with Disability Act. i don't have a citation for you.
