When one physician covers for another due to medical illness

Are there any rules or guidelines for when a physican from the same billing group (both physicians are credentialed with all our carriers) covers for another physician who is out on medical leave (not a locum tenens situation)? Are there any specific documentation rules or guidelines for the covering physician updating the absent physician's medical records?
