icd 9 code for question below

25-week pregnancy with urinary tract infection secondary to E-Coli; patient went home undelivered.

was this patient admitted, seen in office or other? UTI is 599.0, 041.4 is E coli infection. Not sure the issue here...

You need to check the Official Coding Guidelines related to pregnancy. It is not correct to code just 599.0 and 041.4. See the guideline below copied from the Coding Guidelines

Current Conditions Complicating Pregnancy
Assign a code from subcategory 648.x for patients that have current conditions when the condition affects the management of the pregnancy, childbirth, or the puerperium. Use additional secondary codes from other chapters to identify the conditions, as appropriate.

you would need four codes for this one: 646.63, 599.0, 648.93, 041.4

it's ok, a lot of people don't realize you have to have a 600 pregnancy code attached with whatever condition they have.
