Medicare - changing tax ID
As a longtime Medicare provider, our office has been identified with the physician's social security number. At one point, we tried to update our Medicare paperwork to use our tax ID (EIN) instead of his SSN. To facilitate this change, we would have had to begin accepting electronic payments (instead of the paper checks we have always received). Not wanting to go to electronic banking status, we have left the SSN as identifier.
However, a recent Medicare credentialling review required electronic remittance. While submitting this re-credentialling information, we went ahead and provided the doctor's Tax ID as identifier.
My question is "when do I know that Medicare has changed this information in our profile"? I am currently submitting claims (electronically) with the doctor's SSN. Will I just have to wait until my claims are rejected and then re-submit?
