Charges for er

Can you charge when seeing pt in the er and then later the pt is taken to surgery.

I assume you are asking if the surgeon can bill for an E/M service, and then the surgery. If the E/M service was the visit the decision was made to perform a major surgical procedure, yes. Use modifier 57 on the E/M service done the day of or the day before. See the article in Codapedia on modifier 57.
