Routine physical/checkup after the IPPE

After the welcome to medicare exam how are you charging a patient coming in for a routine physicial or checkup? Are you using the 99397? Are you collecting up front before the exam? Thanks

Routine physical/check up after the IPPE

This is a really interesting question. Most patients think of the IPPE as a physical exam. but we know that it only requires height, weight, BP, visual acuity and calculation of BMI, for exam.

I would think that you would bill whichever service was performed. If the patient returned to follow up on chronic or acute medical problems, a 99212-99215 visit. If the patient has no complaints, and comes in for a "physical exam" then bill the patient for the 99397 service. You can bill the pelvic and breast exam (G0101) with any of these services: the IPPE, 99397 or with an office visit.
