Is using medication refills or lab work allowed as the chief complaint.

The Documentation Guidelines are not specific enough about this to answer definitively. I think payers will accept this, but I can't give a citation.

I would go and speak to the physicain and find out what meds are being refilled? is it a chronic condition, if so theres your code. Why is lab work being ordered...= your code.
