acute myocardial infarction
Sorry, but I need help, as I have found inconsistent answers for the following scenario:
A patient is admitted with acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and hypotension. In 1995 (3rd qrtr), Coding Clinic included hypotension with the AMI, but stated in CC, 4th qrtr. 1997 to code the hypotension separately. I have just read a more recent HIM Coding article stating that hypotension is integral to the MI and is not coded separately. Can you please help me understand which coding advice is actually correct?
Thank You!
