FNP's

Our fnp's have their own billing numbers. We bill any new patient they see under their individual number but established patients we bill incident to under the physician. Is this correct or should they bill everything under their number?

re: FNP's

This is correct for established patient's, if all criteria for "incident-to" are met. This provision is limited to services provided strictly as a follow up to the provider's plan of care. "Incident to" billing is limited to the office setting. If "incident to" services are provided by a nurse practitioner the physician must be on site, and the visit cannot be with a new patient or with an old patient with a new problem.
