Lidocaine and Depo_Medrol

Hello

Orthopedic inj and aspiration or trigger point injects

Providers are submitting J1030 Depo-Medrol and J3490 (unlisted) for the Lidocaine.

My problem is the Lidocane or any anteseptic is necessary for the procedure is it separately billable?

If not, can you please direct me to the policy?

re: Lidocaine and Depo_Medrol

No, it is not separately billed.
In January 2004, Medicare stated that it would no longer pay separately for a lidocaine injection used to numb an area prior to a therapeutic injection; therefore J2000 was deleted from the HCPCS manual. The local anesthetic is bundled into the main procedure. This is consistent with CPT® instructions.
