Can you bill 99460 and 99238 on the same DOS?
One of my pediatricians is asking me to bill both for the same date of service. Isn't one inclusive with the other?
Thanks.

Look at code 99463 if initial care and discharge are on same date.
re: Can you bill 99460 and 99238 on the same DOS?
Thanks, but 2 days involved - initial care on one, the subsequent/discharge on the other. Is that OK for 99460 and 99238 for second day?

Yes if separate dates of service,. The original question had "same" date in the question.
re: Can you bill 99460 and 99238 on the same DOS?
Yes, sorry if I"m not being clear: after having billed the initial caree on one day, I'm being asked to bill both 99460 and 99238 on the same (second) day.
Does that help?

The second day would be 99238 if discharged, not 99460
re: Can you bill 99460 and 99238 on the same DOS?
Thanks - what I'm getting is that you either do an exam of the newborn (99460), or you perform the discharge duties (99238), but not both on the same day.
re: Can you bill 99460 and 99238 on the same DOS?
On day of discharge, the daily newborn exam is folded into the discharge planning, hence the 99238 (that's for 30 minutes or less). If more than 30 minutes (extensive counseling, etc., explicitly say over 30 minutes and use 99239.
