Heterotopic bone excision.

Hi everyone,
I have to code for removal of heterotopic bone in rt. leg and hip. Patient had open fxs. with orif of the femur and patella 3 yrs ago and has developed this heterotopic bone. Can anyone tell me what code I would use for this?
TIA

heterotopic bone

This is an abnormal calcification/ossification of the muscles around the hip joint, creating a stiff hip joint! It is really difficult to answer this without seeing an op-note. Diagnosis code is 728.13. CPT could be 27299 (unlisted); or 27036 if this meets op-note dictation.

Heterotopic Bone

Hi, thank you so much for your reply.

It is not going to be a capsulectomy so I guess I can't use 27036. He just says "removal of heterotopic bone rt. leg and hip for heterotopic bone rt. hip and thigh." The previous notes indicate the fxs. femur and patella in 2007. If nothing else I'll need to use the 27299.
Thanks again.
