Billing for wasted medication

Our Oncology Department opened a vial of 5FU however the patient became ill before any amount was administered, so the entire vial was wasted. Is there any way to recoup the expense for the medication? Can the insurance carrier be billed?

I am sorry to say that if the patient was not hooked up and nothing was administered, you cannot claim it, not even a single count.
