99245 for 2012

Can i bill 99245 for 2012 visit? I dont think so ,but want to make sure. Thank you

Why not?

Medicare and some payers do not recognize consults but many payers still do.

This is a consultation code (highest level of complexity). It cannot be billed for a Medicare patient.

If the carrier does not recognize consult codes, you will need to bill the apporpiate E/M: new pt 99201-99205, est 99212-99215, or ER 99281-99285. I have a crosswalk I will be happy to email you if needed.

Cigna also does not recognize the consultation codes.
