Parathyroidectomy

I have a surgeon who is trying to bill 60500 x 4. I don't see how he can do this. Anyone? It is my understanding that this can only be billed once per surgery despite his having removed 4 parathyroids? Am I reading this correctly? Thanks.

re: Parathyroidectomy

You can only bill 60500 1 time per Medically Unlikely Edits (MUE). Modifier 50 is not allowed and neither is LT or RT. The description states: Parathyroidectomy or exploration of parathyroid(s). Hence the (s) at the end of parathyroid. This means singular or plural. Maybe he can bill with with modifier 22 and increase the charge amount by 25% but otherwise, I do not see any other way.
