Are hospital visits for post-op ileus during global billable?
I code for general surgeons and often agonize over what Dx would be considered as "related" to surgery done earlier. Say a patient had cholecystectomy and 4 days later is admitted for post-op ileus. Would I use mod. -24 on the E/M or not? What about post-op wound infections? Thank you for your thoughts on this.

If the complication is related to recovery from initial surgical procedure and does not require a return to OR, it is included in global.

This is Medicare directive. What about private insurance?
