osteomyelitis

Is osteo always a secondary diagnosis, or can it ever be the PDX in the inpt setting on a patient with no history of diabetes, etc? Not finding any coding clinics addressing osteo without diabetes. Thank you

re: osteomyelitis

look at the 730.0 codes in the ICD-9 book and you should be able to find a code that is not related to Diabetes.:)

Yes. The 730. series can be used as primary dx, but since you are treating a pressure ulcer it might be better to use the pressure ulcer dx's.. Maybe dx 707.24

yes those codes can be used as primary DX. If you read the waringing in red under each DX code in that range it tells hou specifically how to use the code, most of them say use additional DX code if applicable.
