Patient comes in for what they are calling scar revision the note states that "standing cutaneous excess of the left abdominal scar " was sharply excised. They are billing with DX 709.2 and 11406/12034 like excision of a scar. On speaking with co-worker regarding the note me being new to plastics I would bill 15830 with 53 modifier because it appears to me that the excess skin is being removed not the scar. What am I missing?

Just wanted to ask why your using modifier 53 as that modifier is for a discontinued procedure, don't see anywhere's in your question that you mentioned any of the procedures you were discussing were discontinued!!!
