CPT® codes for skin substitutes are based on the product that is applied, however, if the patient has a deep ulcer or an irregular sized ulcer and the physician uses 30 cm2 product for a 20 cm2 ulcer and documents that he placed the whole 30 cm2 in the ulcer because of the irregular shape – how would you code this? Based on wound size or product size?
