Education and Certification

Hello. I live in Harrison, Maine, and would like to work with a school in the Portland area if possible. It appears there are various certifications which can be had, and I'm wondering which is the one that would prove to be the most appealing/valuable to prospective employers?? Also, I did see some information posted about a change from ... 9 to 10 which appears to be much more extensive. Do those that receive a certification in the current version need to update to remain current??
