anastomosis

My general surgeon (We'll call him Dr. A) was called in on a case of a patient that was there for laporoscopy that was converted to an open procedure. The OB/Gyn surgeon performing original procedure is Dr. B. Dr. B entered the bowel with a trocar, therefore caused the injury. Dr. B did the
small bowel resection and asked Dr A to do the anastomosis. How do I bill for Dr. A. They are different specialty and different practices. Please help???

It was end-to-end

re: anastomosis

Dr. B caused the injury so Dr. B should not bill for anything regarding the repair/resection. Dr. A did anastomosis and there is a code for that 44130. Had Dr. A completed the entire surgery I would say have him bill the 44120, but I am not sure about that code, but would feel comfortable billing only 44130 for Dr. B.

Good. Glad I could help. It always helps to know someone else confirms what you are thinking. Have a great day.
