Billing for a patient in a bed

A patient will be discharged from the hospital but refuses to leave. The hospital was going to charge them for the bed after giving notice. On a hospital bill, how is that actually done? Is there a code for room and board that goes on the statement like they code for medication or a CT scan? What is the code? Is this an hourly code or daily code?

Any details you can provide would be great.

re: Billing for a patient in a bed

When this occurs, the patient is given written notice after UR decision that level of care is no longer required. Hospital billers indicate patiient responsibility on the UB-04 through the use of value codes & occurrence codes to indicate date of patient UR notice, date patient is officially financially responsible & amount of patient responsibility. The notice/Patient Bill of Rights advise patient of steps to appeal decision if they wish to pursue.
