technical vs. professional component reimbursement

Research the difference between the Technical Component and Professional Component and how each affects the reimbursement from the insurance carriers.

I know the difference as far as billing, any thoughts on the reimbursement? I would think the technical components are needed to support the professional component and visa versa. But, I'm looking for additional ideas to support my thoughts.

Thanks!

re: technical vs. professional component reimbursement

I know that you do not have to have a professional and technical componet together. Look at it this way if a patient comes in for a removal of sutures most likely they will not see a physician (in a ED) so for this you would only charge the technical componet. The same as if a patient from a nursing home is brought in to the ED for say a routine pap because there are circumstances which prevent them from going to see their gyno in their office setting they do the pap you can charge only the technical level and the gyno will bill them seperately for their services. Does this help?
