colonoscopy

If a Medicare patient comes in for a screening and rectal bleeding is discovered, do you bill a diagnostic colon 45378 or screening code.

colonoscopy

If a Medicare pt is presenting for a screening colonoscopy with no signs or symptoms and rectal bleeding is found then you would still bill as a screening colonoscopy. If however, there are biopsies or removals of polyps done during the colonoscopy, then it would change to a diagnostic colonoscopy code.
