Modifier

When a patient comes in with L shoulder pain, how would it be coded as far as any modifier to indicate which shoulder?

re: MODIFIER

No modifier required for a diagnosis.

re: MODIFIER

The modifier for left is -LT but this would not indicate left shoulder pain. Consider what did the provider did in regards to treating the left shoulder pain. For instance, lets say pt presents to the office c/o left shoulder pain and in evaluating the complaint, there was documentation to support a level III ov visit, x-rays, and a injection. It would be coded as follows:

99213 -25
20610-LT
73030-LT
J3301 x 4

dx 719.41 pain in joint; shoulder.

Hope this helps.
