Legally speaking...

Good afternoon,

I do medical billing for a Doctor that has added an NP. When billing for a patient that has seen the NP, should I be using her information or, because she is listed on the same provider ID number, do I keep it under the Doctors name? I guess what I am asking is, does the NP's name need to be anywhere on the claim when it is submitted?

Our nP's have billing numbers with all who recognize nurse practioners. On the the ones that don't I use the doctors name as the billing and np's name as the examining clinician.

Billing for NPs and PAs

There is an article in Codapedia on billing for Non-Physician Practitioners. Medicare has specific rules. Commercial payers decide for themselves whether to credential and enroll them.
