J9263

I need to figure out how to bill 170mg of oxaliplatin. I know that each billable unit is 0.5mg. I don't know how to convert to units.

re: J9263

I don't code these, so don't have any experience with J codes, but I think you need to divide the number of mg given (170 mg) by 2 (since it takes 2 units to make 1mg per your post ) and then the product is the amount of units. I am getting 85 units, which seems to be a large number and might get you a MUE edit because it is so high, but this might be a usual dose. Is there a J code for a larger amount of mgs of the drug? I don't have access to J codes, since I don't code them. (Have no red book or HCPCS book). Hope this helps you.

170 mg / (0.5) = 340 units
