TC technical component for procedures

Our doctors do thoracentesis and use ultrasound guidance to do the procedure. They use the code of 76942, they use the hospital equipment, but no hosptial personel, they do the 76942 themselves. Can this be billed as 76942 witn no modifier or since it is the hospital's equipment, must they only us the professional component modifier of 26????
Thanks,
Karen

tc component

You can only us the -TC modifier if the equipment is yours. I work for a surgeon's office and we have our own ultrasound machine so if our doctor uses it in the office, I can bill both components. If they use imaging in the hospital, I can only bill out the -26 modifier.
