Meet and greet

Meet and greet encounter is not billed, usually. There is no professional service rendered/billed. The first face-face professional service in outpatient setting, is a new patient when the three key components are met or exceeded.

meet and greet

Hi Nancy,

OUr offices typically do not bill for a meet and greet but sometimes they want to bill the 99499 to the pt. So if the patient is seen and given a shot but no bill for the meet and greet would they be considered "new" when they come back? And if you bill the pt a 99499 do you bill then as "new" or "etsablished" when they come back for thier first official visit? We are having a debate on this and I would like to confirm.

Thanks

New vs. Est

If you gave a "shot", it is a professional service and they would be established at next encounter.
“Get-Acquainted” Visits: There is no CPT code for a “get-acquainted” visit with a new patient. These services would not be considered medically necessary or preventive and should not be billed to insurance. Unless your policy is to provide these visits at no charge, patients should be informed when they call to schedule this type of visit that insurance will not cover it and that payment will be expected at the time of the service.
