Lab Handling/Conveyance Charge for Outside Lab
Does anyone have a solution to this? We utilize an outside lab for tests that cannot be performed in-house. Or, we sometimes based on the insurance, the outside lab has to do the billing of the lab charges. Here are a couple examples we have where we get paid zero for our service involved.
Patient comes in and gives urine sample to be cultured...no other service on this date. The specimen is sent to the outside lab, who in turn has to bill the insurance. We bill for a 99000 only. The insurance denies our charge for 99000 as being part of the allowance for the other procedure.
(If there would have been blood drawn, yes we would have billed the 36415. In this visit there was no drawing that took place.)
Shouldn't we be paid something for our service? Is there another way we should be billing this or a modifier we can put on the 99000?
Thanks
