Diagnostic Test/Inpatient coding

I am an inpatient coder in an acute hospital. I have a case where a neurologist is a consultant on a case and performs an eeg. He documents metabolic encephalopathy on the eeg report. Can I use this documentation since he is the neurologist on the case? This is the only documentation in the record stating this dx.
