re: Answers for Drainage Of Fluid From Pericardial Space CPT® Code

Depends: you can code 33010 when there is no incision on the skin and a long gauge needle(with or without fluoroscopic guidance) is used to aspirate the pericardial fluid. Or, 33015 will be your choice of code when a catheter is inserted into the pericardial space following needle insertion. You can code 33025 if incision is performed on chest and in pericardium to create an opening or "pericardial window", through which the pericardial fluid is drained out.
