Medicare/Work Comp claim form

We received a claim denial from Medicare because of work comp insurance on file, however the reason of the visit is unrelated to the work comp (back only) issue. The patient is telling us that we need to mark a certain box on the claim form so Medicare recognizes it is not a work comp dx. Medicare will not tell us anything.

I am not clear if we need to bill it as MSP with the denied work comp eob.... or if there truly is a box that can be checked on the Medicare claim form the first time around.

Any insight would be much appreciated. Thank you

box 10

Generally speaking, if we call Medicare for help and we get someone uncooperative, we hang up and try again! Some reps are so helpful, some are so not helpful!
Not knowing what pm system you are using, it may help to make sure that the questions in box 10 of the CMS 1500 are all marked "NO" .
Make sure you are not using the back pain diagnosis at all for this visit.
Hope this helps.

:)

Of course! I was trying to make it way more difficult than that. I pulled the claim and box 10 had been left blank so I am sure you are right. Thank you for pointing out the obvious.
