Modifier 24

To append modifier 24, is it ok if the DX is different than the DX for which the surgery was done?

What if the DX is same for the E/M visit and the surgery visit?

Re:mod 24

To append a 24 to an e/m during a global period, the diagnosis code SHOULD be different from the surgery.

If the Dx is the same, it is probably not UNRELATED, and subsequently, you should not be billing an e/m code with a 24

The 24 modifier allows you to bill an e/m during the global period as long as the problem they are being seen for has nothing to do with the surgery.
