Binocular Microscopy Procedure Abandoned Due To Patient's Anxious Resistance
An otolaryngolost is faced with an autistic, anxious patient, a child, who has a foreign object lodged in his ear canal. The ENT intends to do a binocular microscopy, Procedure 92504, to take a look at the foreign object. The ENT gets as far as placing the ear funnel in the ear when the patient physically moves away. The ENT decides the patient is too large to restrain and decides not to continue, instead recommending the removal of the foreign object under anesthesia.
Given these circumstances, is it appropriate to bill for Procedure 92504, Binocular Microscopy?
Thank you.

Yes, you can but you need to add the modifier 53 stating it was a discontinued proecdure which means you will get paid less for the procedure, but at least its not a total loss
