Vitamin D-CPT 82306

Our physicians have recently been ordering for Vitamin D levels. They are giving us diagnoses of weakness/fatigue. Our Medicare biller called stating that they were denying this. We are unable to locate a LCD for this. I would appreciate any input.

Indications:

Measurement of vitamin D levels is indicated for patients with:
chronic kidney disease stage III or greater;

osteoporosis;

osteomalacia;

osteopenia;

hypocalcemia;

hypercalcemia;

hypoparathyroidism;

hyperparathyroidism;

rickets; and

vitamin D deficiency to monitor the efficacy of replacement therapy

Also the reason why you are have problems with this is because these guidlines and LCD for this test were just put out in the last few years and it has become increasingly more diffcult with time. If you ever need help with LCD's e-mail me that's what i work with all day everyday.
