I used E9589 BUT insurance is asking forth or 5th digit(?)

Hmm, request for fourth or fifth digit I don't understand. However, the payer may want a principal diagnosis that describes the patient's illness/injury. the E958.9 is an underlying cause of the primary DX, which is the harm the patient self-inflicted that is being treated.
